WPS stands for WiFi Protected Setup, and its function is to make the process of connecting one or more devices to a secured network simple by just pressing the button. It appears on the back of the router, next to the Ethernet ports. The WPS button on Xfinity router is an important feature as it makes setting up wireless networks easy and quick. Linksys routers are more creative and have clearly marked their WPS button in blue. Pressing the WPS button will enable the discovery mode and a light will flicker until your device has connected to the router. Xfinity routers have a WPS button that may be difficult to find it’s located on the top of the router. Some Netgear routers will differ and use the WPS icon instead.ĭ-Link routers follow the trend with their WPS button located at the back of the router, next to the port for the power cables. Netgear routers have a clearly marked WPS button on the back of their routers, next to the Ethernet port. This feature is applicable to most TP-Link routers that have been released in the past several years. Pressing the button for a quick second will activate the WPS feature.īe Careful not to hold the button in for too long, as the same button is used to turn the Wi-Fi on and off. The button that appears at the back of their router has two purposes. TP-Link routers have their own unique WPS button on the back of the router. This icon is used in replacement of the WPS label on certain routers.įor your convenience, below is a list of some of the most popular router brands and where their WPS button can be found on them: It’s an oval-shaped icon with two arrows that are directed at each other. It is similar in design to a recycling symbol if it were circular. It may prove useful to look for the WPS icon. It should be located somewhere around the back of the unit. Therefore, the WPS button may look a little bit different, depending on the router model.įor some models, it’s really easy to spot just look for the button labeled WPS. Routers are manufactured by different companies, and each has its own design. Enter the 8-digit code that is under the configuration menu, and you’ll be connected to the network. The PIN is eight digits long and can be found on the WPS configuration page. There is another WPS method that allows devices to connect once you have inserted a PIN that has been automatically generated by the router. The two devices will then pair and share a connection. Simply press the WPS button on your router and then on your device. Some devices have their own WPS button, which will allow you to connect to your router in seconds. WPS will send the network’s password to your device, and in the future, it will automatically reconnect to the network. Once the network that you would like to connect to has successfully discovered the device, it will connect automatically. Simply press the WPS button on the router to activate the router’s discovery mode, which will prompt it to search for compatible devices. With the help of WPS, you are able to connect your devices to a wireless network at the click of a button. Unfortunately, if you do not enter the correct password, you will not be able to connect your device to the network.Īlthough finding the correct network and filling in the correct password isn’t the most difficult process, it does waste your time, especially if you have forgotten the correct password. If you have forgotten the Wi-Fi password and you’re within touching distance of the router, you will be able to connect.Ĭonnecting any device to a Wi-Fi network will require the user to know the specific name of the network and its password this is commonly referred to as the ‘WPA-PSK’ key. The ‘WPS’ button creates a shortcut for users to avoid filling in the lengthy password that can take time to locate. This is where WPS simplifies the process of connecting devices to a wireless network it helps users add devices to their Wi-Fi networks by skipping the need to enter long, complex passwords. These characters usually include letters (upper and/ or lower case), numbers, and symbols, in a seemingly endless array of combinations. This default password is set by the manufacturer of the router and usually contains a list of three characters. Some default user passwords will be enclosed in the router’s user guide manual. These passwords are often printed on a hard-to-read, thin strip of paper, pasted underneath your router. If you’re connecting your device to a router for the first time, or you have recently just installed a new router, you will more than likely experience the daunting task of filling in the default router passwords. The mysterious ‘WPS’ button that appears on your router stands for ‘Wi-Fi Protected Setup.’ This button allows you to connect your device to a network with ease.

HP did very well for itself in our recent reviews of its DeskJet budget all-in-ones and this Photosmart 5510 does the same for home and photo-enthusiast customers. Both these are very good for a low-cost machine and HP is obviously not trying to recoup to much of its low asking price in the Photosmart 5510’s consumables. Ink cartridges are available in two yields and using the higher capacity XL cartridges gave running costs of 2.9p for black and 7.3p for colour. Our test photocopy was hard to tell from an original under most conditions, with very little lightning of colours in the copy outstanding for a budget machine.įinally, photo prints were clean and smooth, with plenty of shadow detail and natural colours showing only a slight preference for blues over reds. Draft mode print, while very slightly more jagged, only reveals this on close examination and for most purposes could save you time and ink.Ĭolour prints are excellent, with good bold colours, no signs of banding or dither patterns and excellent alignment of overprinted black text. Print quality is surprisingly good, with little sign of black ink feathering, even on emboldened headings, and no signs of head pass misalignment. A single page colour copy took a very reasonable 27s and 15 x 10cm photos took identical times of 1:02 from both a PC and an SD card again an above-average result. The text and colour graphics print gave 4.6ppm, not quite so close to the 7.5ppm claim, but still a worthwhile speed for this class of machine. This is not far off the speed claim and is a very good speed for a low-cost all-in-one. In our tests it didn’t reach either of these throughputs, though the 5-page black text test produced a speed of 6.5ppm, which rose to 9.2ppm on the longer, 20-page test. The HP Photosmart 5510 is rated at 11ppm printing black and 7.5ppm printing colour. The ink cartridges clip into the head carrier very easily and the support software includes HP PhotoCreations and support for ePrint. The printer can be connected via USB or wireless, though wireless is the easier option, particularly if your router supports WPS setup. It’s in the manual, but if you’re the type who likes to work things out from first principles, it’s easy to get confused. It’s not at all obvious that the paper feed tray pulls out, like a skeletal paper cassette, so you can feed small paper sizes into the bowels of the machine. Then there’s feeding 15 x 10cm photo blanks. As pages come through, they ride up the angled paper stop and often overcome the little ridge at the top which is supposed to stop them. This is a common enough way of doing things with inexpensive all-in-ones, but here there’s a swivel-out paper support, for some reason coloured brown against the black livery of the rest of the machine, and with a long flip-up paper stop, which is both flimsy and ineffective. There are a couple of other slightly unfortunate design features in this machine.įor a start, printed pages stack up on top of the input tray. Unusually, this slot is very fiddly to work a card into. To the left of this is a flip-open cover for the dual memory card slot, which takes SD and MemoryStick cards. It’s very easy to use and has separate indicators for wireless connection and HP’s remote printing ePrint function.ĭirectly below the control panel is the fold-down front cover, which becomes the paper feed tray. The small, neat control panel is touch-sensitive, with a 60mm touchscreen boarded down either side by three touch buttons. The top of the flatbed scanner lifts without problem and the whole scanner section hinges up equally easily to get at the four, independent ink cartridges. This is a long, low machine, with simple and practical lines. This seems to happen more quickly with HP printers than some other makes and the Photosmart 5510 is a good example of the kind of technology you can now buy for under £60. As new technology finds its way into printers, it slowly filters down from the premium to the budget models. Whatever the case, I hope we’re all sleeping better. Our team is dedicated to finding and telling you more about the web’s best products. Hell, maybe one day it’s a robot with its own version of a 21st century stick. But as we enter a new era-one where the downsides of technology are apparent and acknowledged even while being embraced-it might be time the alarm, once again, morphed into a new iteration. Come the 1930s, cheap alarm clocks were readily available and widely used, while the 2010s saw the ubiquity of cellphones. In industrial-era England, many hired “knocker-uppers,” or people who banged on your window with a large stick. The 16th century saw the arrival of lantern clocks, which used a system of clanging weights. Others relied on the reliable ringing of church bells to get them out of bed. What's a good millennial to do?Īlmost as soon as humans were able to tell time, we realized we needed some sort of contraption to wake up and use it: in 725 AD, Yi Xing, a Buddhist mathematician and monk invented a mechanical clock that, through a system of wheels, locks, and rods, was able to set off a gong upon the hour. Sure, I still check my phone right after I wake up-but hey. I fall asleep quicker because I'm no longer shoving my screen in my face minutes before hitting the pillow, and I'm falling asleep deeper, unperturbed by notifications real or phantom. But having my phone no longer next to me on my nightstand has undoubtedly helped. I won't lie-I still have a lot to do before achieving a healthy sleep routine. If you’d rather listen to your own thing, it also doubles a bluetooth speaker. There are settings for breathwork and sound baths. The Loftie alarm clock has other uses too: namely, helping you fall asleep from all the screen-stimulation you’ve endured throughout the day. Instead, you can arrange it all in one sitting. on Friday, and then on the weekend likes to lounge around until 10-you don’t need to sit down each night to set an alarm. on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday to go to the gym, but allows themselves to sleep in to 7:30 a.m. So if you’re like me-who wakes up at 6:30 a.m. It also offers a very functional feature of allowing its owner to schedule alarms for different times, on different days in advance. The former sounds are mostly nature based-think waterfalls and birdsong-where the latter usually involves a cheerful bell or gong. Loftie recommends two: one to (gently) wake you from sleep, and another to get you actually out of bed. From the ease of your phone screen, you schedule your alarms. Similar to a Sonos, you link your two devices via a Wi-Fi network. The whole apparatus is controlled via an app. But instead of rejecting technological advances, it embraces them-then weaves in wellness components your phone sorely lacks. It wakes you up by playing a loud noise, and you turn it off by hitting a button. On a fundamental level, Loftie is, yes, a time-telling and awakening device. I stumbled upon Loftie after an admittedly cringey Google search for “millennial alarm clock.” (Look, I’m not a Luddite! I don’t want to manually, repeatedly press a bunch of buttons.) Carried by the MoMA Design store-an aesthetic arbitrator if there ever was one-it was on its way to my New York City apartment in just a few clicks. In fact, the only thing I feel is lingering anxiety over “low ink” notifications. This led to absolutely no traceable character development nor do I, nearly two decades later, feel any sort of nostalgia. I spent an entire childhood logging onto a Windows 2000 computer, typing “Mapquest” into Internet Explorer, then printing out seven to nine pages of streaky, borderline unreadable directions for my mother to drive me to various friends’ houses. iPhones and Samsungs have replaced a lot of personal technology over the past few years-flashlights, portable music players, digital cameras, and paper maps, for example, have all fallen by the wayside-and, frankly, made our many of our lives easier and better by doing so. And since 85 percent of Americans have a smart device, well-do you really need us to do the math? Think that’s a sweeping generalization? One survey estimates 83 percent of mobile owners in America also use it as an alarm clock. Most everyone wakes up in the same exact way: to a blaring sound emitting from their cellphone. 200 tiktok username ideas and name generator turbofuture. Logo design ideas 1 607 208 logos to browse. Sex plays a prominent role in Julia Quinn's "Bridgerton" romance novels, so when the very polite socialite Daphne (Phoebe Dynevor) marries the noble Simon Basset, Duke of Hastings (Regé-Jean Page), it should not have shocked anyone that their wedding night was depicted with some detail. Still, the show is noteworthy for adding some spice to a very vanilla genre. "Bridgerton," created by Chris Van Dusen, should not be treated by the curious as a "how to" manual for sex, or romance, or anything about the human condition. Ladies, you deserve better – and for that matter, so do you gentlemen. Nobody should want to have sex like that. We really need to talk about those love scenes, because I regret to inform you that the sex depicted within … is bad. Social media has been in a buzz over it since its Christmas Day premiere as fans discuss the fashion, the drama, and - most of all - the love scenes. Dear gentle reader, surely you have heard about "Bridgerton," the Netflix Regency-style romance executive produced by Shonda Rhimes. However, the oddball 16:10 resolutions available on Xbox 360 clearly upscale from a lower resolution, complete with borders. Likewise, when you select 1024x768, the game switches to a 4:3 image, offering 1:1 pixel-mapping at that particular resolution. For example, when 720p is selected, the game renders at 1280x720 with 4x MSAA. What's curious about the way image quality is handled is that Quake 2 doesn't seem to downsample from its maximum internal resolution as you might expect. Depending on the set-up of the internal rendering, a full 1080p frame-buffer with 4x MSAA requires enough memory that the programmer would be required to use anything up to seven eDRAM tiles - an impressive feat considering its early release time frame. It doesn't stop there - the game's core image quality is exceptionally impressive as well, thanks to full support for 4x multi-sampling anti-aliasing (MSAA). John Linneman's DF Retro episode on Quake 2, centring on the original PC version, performance on original Voodoo Graphics hardware, plus analysis of all the console ports - including the Xbox 360 'HD remaster'. However, our tests confirm that the id game had the capability to render at full HD right from launch, presumably in order to offer superior image quality to those using 1080i displays. However, by the time this was introduced, it's fair to say that most 360 owners had long since forgotten about Quake 2 - and 1080p televisions were still relatively rare too. In the case of Quake 2, id was able to achieve things that few other games on the system would ever manage, including support for 1080p output - a hardware feature that would elude the console until September 2006, when support was added via a firmware update. However, as we've seen time and again, reproducing an original game on a different architecture can reveal unforeseen challenges, resulting in a poor conversion. Of course, by the time the Xbox 360 launched, Quake 2 was already eight years old and not exactly an impressive technical showcase, so the undoubted quality of the console port may not seem like a huge achievement. The Xbox 360 conversion of Quake 2 was released exclusively as a bonus disc packaged with the horrific Quake 4, and we were impressed by what we found: an optimised 1080p, 60 frames per second rendition of the classic id shooter, released at a time when the console itself was physically incapable of producing a full HD output - which may explain why its charms were overlooked at the time.Ĭoded predominantly by id (now Nvidia) programmer Brian Harris, Quake 2 for Xbox 360 started life as a simple conversion, more than likely a minor project that allowed id to test the waters on what was then 'next-gen' console development. The game? Quake 2.ĭuring a recent binge on retro games, we found ourselves marvelling at various console conversions of classic id shooters. Looking back, Sony Santa Monica's brilliant God of War Collection in 2009 was clearly the catalyst for this new trend, but the reality is that id Software produced a remarkable 1080p60 HD remaster that shipped at launch alongside the Xbox 360 four years prior. Over the past few years the high-definition remaster has become a popular way to enjoy classic games, using more powerful hardware to deliver an enhanced, higher performance experience. The new DF Retro episode is embedded below and it offers a nice opportunity to revisit the story of the first console HD remaster - a 1080p60 presentation designed for a console that initially couldn't even output a full HD 60Hz signal. Editor's note: We originally published this story in February 2015, but today, Digital Foundry Retro rolls out a new Quake 2 episode, featuring an extended look at the PC original, along with analysis of the original PlayStation, N64 and unofficial Dreamcast versions - in addition to the Xbox 360 port this article focuses on. One way people like to use obsidian crystals when they’re doing their spiritual work such as meditation or spellwork is by placing them on the third eye chakra (or brow) area before starting your practice. It’s no wonder this rock is considered “the traveler’s stone” since it provides peace and comfort while carrying you through life with courage and confidence. This powerful gemstone has been used by many different civilizations throughout history as well as in more modern times because of its ability to provide insight into difficult situations where guidance is needed the most. It’s also a great stone for grounding and protection which is why it can be an effective protective crystal to use during astral travel, shamanic journeys or any other form of spiritual journeying. Obsidian crystals have extremely high vibrations which makes this an excellent tool when working with low vibrational things such as fear, anger, resentment, and other negative energy emotions. This powerful protective crystal has been known throughout history for its ability to provide insight into difficult situations where it’s needed the most by helping us get rid of our fears so we can overcome them once and for all. This particular stone will help you move forward in your life while letting go of any negative attachments or bad habits that are no longer serving a purpose for you. Obsidian can also be used to remove energy blocks as well as amplify spiritual energies. The most common meaning behind obsidian is protection, grounding and shielding from negativity. Obsidian crystals can have a variety of different meanings and healing properties depending on the type of obsidian. It is considered to be an “extrusive rock” as it was formed by magma that erupted out of a volcano and didn’t form underneath the earth’s surface. Obsidian is made from magma that cooled very quickly, as a result obsidian crystals have sharp edges and come in many unique shapes. The Mayans actually created mirrors made entirely out of obsidian stones where they looked into them while performing rituals and ceremonies before going off to war. They called these spears “Tlacochtli” (Obsidian). The Aztecs even created weapons out of obsidian believing they would gain power from them if they were able to slay an enemy during battle. It was once believed that obsidian could form in a single night when lightning struck the earth it also had magical powers because of this belief. It’s still being used today by many people as a grounding stone, which can help with emotional issues such as anxiety or depression. Obsidian has been around for a very long time and is one of the first rocks to be used for its healing properties. Additional Articles About Obsidian The History of Obsidian. |
